Graffiti writer Charlie McFarley was painting at the starting and finishing line of the Run Vitality Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday at Hackney Marshes. It was an early start for the lad who sent me a text to say he arrived at 8am. Charlie is a fast worker so if you’re shooting him painting live then you need to be focused on the job at hand. Thousands of people were stretching and preparing for the marathon as Charlie threw up some dedicated characters. We did get to shoot the start of the race and we also managed to capture the Kenyan winner crossing the line just sixty four minutes later. It was such a hot day that we left Charlie early for some lunch then quickly nipped to Leake Street tunnel to shoot and document the artwork from the Femme Fierce Street Art Graffiti Jam on Saturday. Charlie McFarley meanwhile painted the three panel canvas alongside the Alternative London crew who were running free graffiti workshops for young people.
