Ozmo Grab This Cock Street Art in Miami

Ozmo created the mural ‘Grab this cock’ at Eneida M. Hartner Elementary School, Wynwood, Miami for the RAW project. Ozmo’s art is always site-specific, and this gigantic emblem follows the rule. The mural in the Eneida school in Miami was a chance for the artist to work using the rooster’s image over a trumpet in a neighbourhood filled with Caribbean immigrants. The rooster is a symbol of vigilance and wisdom in the  Early Modern Emblems and at once a traditional reference for the Caribbean tradition. Standing over a trumpet, saying “alertness and wisdom’, it warns us about racism, discrimination and fears. This time though, the imagery is also time-specific. Extemporaneous and well meditated at the same time, “Grab this cock” is also a well timed political comment.  Ozmo, as usual, plays with a complex and mysterious tradition, and turns the obscurity of Italian humanism into a clear, loud, and worried message.

‘smash discrimination guys, wake up, and be wise!

The RAW Project

The RAW Project,  a Miami-based grassroots effort,  aimed at improving schools through urban art and community engagement. RAW began in 2014 and brought together a coalition of non-profits, organizations, artists, and administration to bring color and inspiration Wynwood’s Jose De Diego middle school’s concrete walls and a school suffering a drought in budget for creativity. In 2016, Wynwood’s Eneida M. Hartner elementary school opened  its doors for a carefully selected group artists including: Shepard Fairey, Axel Void (USA), OZMO (IT), 2501 (IT),  INO (GR), Martin Whatson (NO).
The RAW Project has shown its murals have led to a leap in class attendance, school enrolment, higher test scores, less violence at school and a more positive atmosphere.
