We’ve been communicating with WD for a few years now so it was great to finally meet him in person. WD was the first artist selected to paint an ex-issue UK police riot helmet for our Peace Helmet Project. Suffice to say the helmet looks stunning but more of the helmet in another post. As everyone on the artist disco bus agreed, WD was the hardest working artist at the festival full stop. Not to take it away from all the other artists that worked really hard on the event because everyone had to work through a heatwave and record temperatures. WD took on the biggest walls using nothing more than a few tubs of paint and a telescopic extension pole. As you can see from the photographs WD’s rendition of Gollum is just outstanding and completed with no ladders in two days. You can find the massive piece at the abandoned Jerma Palace Hotel in Malta. Although a serious health & safety hazard the artists had great fun transforming the once grand building into a walking exhibition of artwork created by artists from around the world for the Malta Street Art Festival warm up.
WD is by far one of the best street artists we have seen on the global map and deserves all the accolades that come with such a title. The softly spoken Indonesian artist living in Greece is an absolute pleasure to work with. We didn’t hear him complain about anything at any point of our stay on the island. He executed his pieces with military precision and didn’t stop painting until way after sundown. WD rarely uses spray paint on such large pieces so everything you see was painted using rollers and paint. The understated artist can work with any gallery in the world but chooses to work with people with connecting energy and a passion for for art. WD is one of the best unknown artists in the world and we look forward to the day when he is recognised both artistically and financially. An altogether charming fellow of heart, integrity and soul.
The artist is currently looking for exhibition space in the UK and further afield, contact Team WD for more information on his newly created collection of stunning canvas works.
